Mallotus discolor (Yellow Kamala) is a dry rainforest tree occuring frpm the Northern Rivers of NSW up to Townsvile that grows to 12 metres in the wild and bears berries enjoyed by the Green Catbird, Lewin's Honeyeater, Grey-Headed Flying Fox and of course we humans. The fruits also bear a yellow pigment that can be used as a dye. Part shade prefered but it is full sun hardy and moderately drought hardy when established, requiring protecting from the hot Western sun while establishing, Yellow Kamala is a tree that makes an excellent screen to hide away overlooking neighbouring properties and is a pioneer species if you're looking to establish a dry rainforest in your backyard.
