Seeds to Success

Dichelachne crinita (Long-hair Plume Grass) is an Eastern Suburbs Banksia Scrub plant that grows naturtally on sandy soils either near the sea or in woodlands. Long-hair Plume Grass grows leaves to 30 cm but grows seed heads that tower gracefully above to a height of 1.5 metres. Their feathery panicles signify the changing seasons, often emerging as Winter comes to an end. It is often seen growing near Agophora and Sydney Peppermint trees and serves as an excellent native replacement for weedy exotic grasses and the sterile but much used exotic Red Fountain Grass (Pennisetum advena 'Rubrum').
